Black & Veatch UK is currently looking for a Senior Maritime Structures Engineer for the Redhill, Surrey office. We are only looking for a candidate with a strong Maritime and Civil Engineering Design background since we need to sell that person as a specialist.
The primary purpose of the position is to capitalise on opportunities to grow the maritime business through co-operation with other sectors of the business worldwide, especially marine terminals associated with LNG and power generation plant. The Sr. Maritime Structures Engineer role is important role to lead feasibility study and design work in prospective marine terminal and marina projects and act as a catalyst to team development.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To investigate, design and project manage maritime civil engineering projects with the support of the Technical Director (Maritime & Coastal).
• To utilise and continue to develop specialist maritime engineering skills and add value to the wider team through mentoring and guidance.
• To keep abreast of innovation in the industry and others.
• The individual will need to work well as part of a team, working closely with others.
PEOPLE DUTY:
Manage design resources for individual projects. Mentoring of graduates.
SAFETY DUTY:
Ensure designs and site works are inherently safe and compliant with all relevant safety standards (internal, client, statutory).
ORGANISATIONAL DUTY:
Manage and maintain project records and compliance with QA procedures.
FINANCIAL DUTY:
Ensure execution of projects within budget.
PROGRAMME DUTY:
Manage and maintain design and study team programmes for a number of projects.
SUBSTAINABILITY DUTY:
Ensure that at all stages of project environmental and sustainability issues are addressed.
TECHNICAL DUTY:
Provide specialist study and design leadership; technical review of outputs; maintain specialist capabilities.
COMMERCIAL DUTY:
Record risks and changes and ensure PM is kept aware of these in order to take appropriate actions.
OTHER DUTY:
Promote maritime and coastal engineering offering within the business and to external clients.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
• MSc or MEng in Civil Engineering with maritime and coastal content.
• Chartered Civil Engineer.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
• Strong post-graduation design office experience in maritime structures (jetties, breakwaters etc).
KNOWLEDGE BASE:
• Civil engineering design
• Knowledge of Eurocodes.
SKILLS:
• Analysis and design of maritime structures.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Experience and proven ability to carry out design tasks.

Preferred Job Qualifications:
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
• Continuing Professional Development in required skill area.
• Second degree in maritime engineering discipline
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
• Specialist knowledge of areas such as marine piling, dredging, port planning or structural analysis, marine terminals.
• Coastal engineering expertise (waves, rubble mound structures, coast protection works).
KNOWLEDGE BASE:
• Knowledge of international codes, contracts and specifications.
• Terminals and harbours.
SKILLS:
• Report writing
• Knowledge of international codes and specifications
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
