Black & Veatch UK is currently looking for a Marine Terminals Lead/Principal Civil Engineer for the Redhill, Surrey office. We are only looking for a candidate with a very strong and extensive Maritime and Civil Engineering Design background acting as the lead and mentor of a team of Design & Maritime Engineers.
The primary purpose of the position is to lead the development of the Marine Terminals business line and to provide technical leadership to the maritime structures team across a range of projects, capitalising on opportunities to grow the maritime business through co-operation with other sectors of the B&V business worldwide. This is a significant role within the maritime and coastal team that will suit a self motivated individual that wishes to combine technical and business development roles and has aspirations to progress to technical director level.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To investigate, design and project manage maritime civil engineering projects with the support of the Technical Director (Maritime & Coastal).
• To utilise and continue to develop specialist maritime engineering skills and add value to the wider team through mentoring, guidance, verification and technical review.
• To keep abreast of innovation in the industry and others.
• The individual will need to work well as part of a team, working closely with others.
PEOPLE DUTY:
Develop relationships with key Energy division personnel; manage design engineers; mentoring of maritime design engineers.
SAFETY DUTY:
Ensure designs and site works are inherently safe and compliant with all relevant safety standards (internal, client, statutory).
ORGANISATIONAL DUTY:
Manage and maintain project records and compliance with QA procedures.
FINANCIAL DUTY:
Ensure execution of projects within budget.
PROGRAMME DUTY:
Manage and maintain design and study team programmes for a number of projects.
SUBSTAINABILITY DUTY:
Ensure that at all stages of project environmental and sustainability issues are addressed.
TECHNICAL DUTY:
Provide specialist study and design leadership; technical review of outputs; maintain specialist capabilities.
COMMERCIAL DUTY:
As PM manage/record risks in order to take appropriate actions.
OTHER DUTY:
Promote maritime and coastal engineering offering within the business and to external clients.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
• Engineering Degree, MSc or MEng in Civil Engineering as a minimum.
• Chartered Engineer
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
• Very strong and extensive post graduation design office experience in marine terminals is a MUST(jetties, breakwaters etc) in both a hands on and supervisory role.
• Regular contact with clients.
KNOWLEDGE BASE:
• International Terminals and Harbours
• Maritime civil engineering design
• Knowledge of Eurocodes
SKILLS:
• Analysis and design of marine terminals and maritime structures
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
• Experience and proven ability to direct, supervise and coach staff. Always seeking improvement in design and delivery performance

Preferred Job Qualifications:
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
• Continuing Professional Development in required skill area
• Second (MSc) degree in maritime engineering
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
• Specialist knowledge o, oil and gas marine terminals or coal unloading facilities; expertise in marine piling, dredging, port planning or structural analysis
• Business development experience.
KNOWLEDGE BASE:
• Knowledge of international codes, contracts and specifications
SKILLS:
• Proposal writing
• Knowledge of international codes and specifications
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Full driving licence
