Overland Contracting, Inc. (OCI), a construction services division of Black and Veatch, is seeking a Civil/Structural/Architectural (CSA) Estimator. The Estimator will assist the Estimating Team in all aspects of the bid/estimating process from the review of plans and specifications, estimating material cost and craft labor productivity, soliciting and negotiating prices from subcontractors/suppliers through completion of the bid/estimating effort for a variety of heavy industrial projects serving such industries as power generation, oil and gas facilities and water and wastewater treatment. * This position will be located near Raleigh, NC
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
•Performs quantity take-offs.
•Applies self-perform labor man-hours and productivity to estimates.
•Obtains competitive commodity pricing and solicits quotations for any specialty equipment and material.
•Communicates with engineers, to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements, and documents these clarifications.
•Proposal development.
•Actively participates in the internal estimate review process.
•Assists with final assembly of estimate including proposal presentation.
•After the bid, collects and organizes all bid information for future reference.
•Aids in maintaining historical data.
Subcontractor Solicitation / Evaluation
•Prepares the scope of work for CSA subcontracts.
•Directs, coordinates and provides access to information and documents to subcontractors. Responds to subcontractor questions.
•Evaluates the lowest cost, qualified subcontractor/bid.
Industry Knowledge / Relationships
•Builds relationships with subcontractors to obtain a competitive advantage for OCI.
•Keeps current with latest estimating technology and techniques.
Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree and/or 5-10 years estimating and field experience.
•Estimating experience in all aspects of civil, structural and architectural disciplines.
•General knowledge of construction principles and processes.
•Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
•In depth knowledge of civil activities (excavation, concrete, etc.), steel erection, and architectural components.
•General knowledge of negotiated bids, hard bids, target pricing, and GMP processes.
•Working knowledge of Sage Timberline Estimating software including setting up, building and managing estimates, assembly takeoff and development and spreadsheet report management is required.
•Working knowledge of estimating tools, such as On Screen Takeoff is preferred.
•Strong math and analytical skills.
•Attention to detail.
•Ability to conceptualize, make assumptions and clarify when detail is not provided.
•Solid interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with others.
