Functions as a technical specialist or in a lead role. Under general direction, develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts and approaches to complex engineering problems. May provide technical guidance over a group or supervise engineering staff on projects of low to medium complexity. May be responsible for developing, validating, and presenting specialist/technical output.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Electrical engineer with a strong electrical power utility protection and control background, who has experience leading design and procurement teams in the implementation of protection and control system upgrades for electrical utility focused Smart Grid projects.
Candidate must have in-depth knowledgeable of transmission lines, HV/MV protection and control schemes, transformer monitoring and distribution metering methods, as well as experience in leading large EPC project teams. Candidate must be willing to travel to site for client meetings, factory/system testing, as well as site commissioning, as required by the project.
Knowledge in electric utility substation integration and automation systems, which include SCADA, designing and programming IEDs and RTUs (standard and custom), testing and commissioning SCADA systems, design, documentation, installation and testing is required.
Day to day lead tasks will include:
• Conceptual and detailed design QA/QC verification of substation schematic, wiring and elevation drawings, BOMs, circuit & conduit schedules and SCADA point lists, as well as utility standard documentation.
• Developing alternate methods, techniques or design concepts as required to resolve unique design challenges.
• Supervising the engineering work/execution of various contractors, as well as assigned Drafters, Designers, and subordinate Engineers.
• Planning, scheduling, conducting and/or coordinating detailed phases of engineering work for an assigned portion of a major project or the total project of moderate scope.
• Coordination with project managers and client personnel to review designs, schedule, budget and to address construction issues, while also resolving areas of concern.
• Supporting continuous improvement efforts and the change management effects associated with the implementation of improvements
The candidate may also be tasked in assisting management with technical responses to proposals, as well as engineering hour estimates for these proposals.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
Minimum of 8 years of experience performing electrical utility protection and control engineering related duties, as well as management duties.
The applicant must have the ability to work in a team environment to meet schedule deadlines and budget targets. Attention to detail with good communication, skills both written and verbal, is also required.
