Functions in a junior level engineering technician capacity. Under close supervision, performs basic functions requiring technical knowledge utilizing electrical, instrumentation and control applications, processes, standards and document control processes/procedures for the purpose of design and construction support in an industrial environment and creating or modifying deliverables.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
The engineering technician position includes inspection, testing, design and construction coordination for electrical, instrumentation, control systems, and SCADA projects for water and wastewater utility clients. The ideal candidate will have a mix of technical and interpersonal communications skills. The position requires becoming knowledgeable about client CADD and design standards and assisting contractors and other design engineers in understanding the standards. The position involves basic analysis, equipment research, P&IDs, control panel details, conduit routing drawings, equipment control schematics, field investigations and inspections, construction coordination and documentation required in order to prepare and implement construction installation packages. Documentation development includes field verification of existing wiring and controls and updating or creating drawings to reflect existing or as-built conditions. Additional responsibilities include design review, contractor shop drawing submittal review, attending design and construction meetings, witnessing factory tests, witnessing or performing instrument calibrations and loop checks, preparing punch lists, and providing troubleshooting, maintenance and training for instrumentation and control systems.
75% travel to client facilities in the local vicinity. Overnight travel less than 10% required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred. GCSC (Draft generic educational equivalent required. Minimum of 1 year related work experience
Preferred Job Qualifications:
1-2 years of experience in the design, installation and startup of electrical, instrumentation and control systems in an industrial environment is preferred. Experience in the water and wastewater industry is highly desirable.
Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematic drawings and control panel wiring drawings.
1 year of experience with AutoCAD.
1 year of experience in PLC and HMI programming desirable but not required.
Diploma or Certificate preferred. Non-Technical: Learning on the Fly, Problem Solving, Perseverance, Patience, Time Management, Drive for Results, Self Development, Customer Focus, Listening, Informing. Technical: Intermediate knowledge of Computer Automated Drafting Design (CADD) or other applications or design or modeling skills. Basic knowledge of engineering standards, systems, document control, departmental guides and B&V policies and procedures. Basic industry knowledge and technology trends. Basic knowledge of company quality program. Basic ability to interpret engineering deliverable content as assigned.
