Black & Veatch is currently looking for a Senior Ecologist for the Water division based in Chester (Cheshire). The role is ideally full time although part time applicants will be considered (minimum 3 days per week).
The Senior Ecologist will be working within our multi-disciplinary environmental services team, which includes ecologists, landscape architects, EIA specialists, & geomorphologists amongst others. The candidate will also be working closely with our engineering design teams.
To manage the delivery of stand-alone Ecology projects or ecological input into multi-disciplinary Engineering projects.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Undertaking and managing ecological surveys and reporting.
• Accountable for tracking and evaluating budgets and reporting on income and expenditure.
• Maintain client relationships.
• Involvement in the development of business opportunities in ecology.
• Responsible for managing junior EIA/ecology team members and sub-consultants, allocating tasks or duties and ensuring team working effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and training:
• Environmental related degree
Academic and professional qualifications:
• Obtained professional full membership of CIEEM.
Background and experience:
• Excellent grounding in Ecology in EIA projects, both survey and reporting.
• The candidate must have survey Licence or be close to being licenced.
• Held or been agent for several species development or conservation licences.
• Should be competent to lead most of the following surveys:
- Extended Phase 1 survey
- Water vole
- Badger
- Otter
- Amphibians incl GCN
- Identifying bat roosts & activity surveys
- Hedgerows
- Invasive plants
- Reptiles
• Site experience of supervising ecological mitigation.
• Preparation of ecological proposals.
• Previous consultancy experience.
Knowledge Base:
• Ecological Impact Assessment to standard methodologies.
Skills:
• Team player and effective communication skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication.
Personal Attributes:
• Self starter
• Professional manner
Any Additional Requirements:
• Driving licence
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Education and training:
• Masters (or equivalent) in Environmental related subject.
Academic and professional qualifications:
• IEMA Registered EIA Practitioner or associate member.
• Chartered (CEnv or CEcol)
Background and experience:
• Additional protected species survey licences
• Licences held in more than one country (Scotland, Wales, NI, England).
• Additional survey experience in the following:
- River corridor or habitat surveys
- Botanical surveys
- Birds
- Dormice
- Crayfish
• Design of habitat creation/restoration.
• Exoerience in relation to flood/coastal management, water utility or energy projects.
Knowledge base:
• Experience of undertaking Habitat Regulations Assessments.
• Experience of applying for SSSI Assent.
