The Federal Services Division, operating as Black & Veatch Special Projects Corp., has its mission to provide a full range of services to our primary client base - U.S. Government agencies and departments. The division also serves selected other private and quasi-public entities that receive a material portion of their funding from the U.S. Government. Our function is to provide the "best of class" services to our clients, to assist other Black & Veatch business units in securing and performing services for U.S. Government agencies, and to offer our unique skill sets and expertise to Black & Veatch business units and their respective client bases.
Permanent position to provide engineering related design, analysis, and studies for domestic and international Federal Services Division projects.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform fire protection engineering functions under the direction of a Project Manager while working with other engineers and architects on projects involving the study and design of unique facilities and utilities for Federal Government clients around the world.
• Act in the capacity of lead fire protection engineer or project engineer for assigned projects and provide supervision for technical professionals supporting assigned project tasks.
• Responsible for scope control, schedule, budget, and quality for the professionals of a multidiscipline project team to whom they provide supervision.
• Complete design for fire suppression, fire detection, and alarm and mass notification systems.
• Prepare calculations, prepare specifications, perform equipment selections, and develop systems layout.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Education: Requires a bachelor's or master’s degree in fire protection engineering from an ABET accredited program in the USA.
• Experience: Minimum of 11 years experience performing engineering related duties.
• Registration: The candidate must have a current Professional Engineer registration in Fire Protection obtained by passing the fire protection engineering written examination administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveys (NCEES).
• Security: The candidate must meet government requirements for access to sensitive information based upon a current background investigation.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
• Experience providing design and construction support services for mission critical facilities including command and control centers and data centers. Specific experience with the design of fire rated construction, fire detection, fire suppression, and life safety systems.
• Demonstrated ability to work as an integral part of a multidiscipline project team in preparing construction documents and will have demonstrated good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply building codes, design and construction standards, and Federal Government design criteria/standards.
• Demonstrated ability to perform building code analysis, perform life safety code analysis, design automatic fire detection, alarm, and mass notification systems, and fire suppression systems, design notification and alarm systems, perform water supply analysis, and perform multi-discipline project reviews.
• Demonstrated proficiency with the following software: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), MS Outlook, Microstation V8, Bently BIM, AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and Fire Dynamics Simulator.
• Demonstrated ability to obtain U.S. government granted security clearances for access to classified information.
