Black & Veatch is currently seeking a Civil Engineer (permanent role) based in Glasgow. The work will involve working on water and wastewater projects in the UK, primarily on Scottish Water projects, as part of an integrated design-built team. While previous experience is preferred, we are seeking a capable and enthusiastic engineer who can demonstrate a keen interest in this type of work. The successful candidate may also be involved in supporting work for other water industry and energy clients within the Water Engineering Design group.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibility:
• Responsible for day to day decisions that contribute to the successful delivery of projects to budget and programme, whilst meeting the appropriate quality and safety standards.
• Accountable for meeting own deadlines/targets and ensuring quality of own service provision.
Client focus:
• May have day-to-day contact with clients and understand routine client needs in own work area.
• Report to client on specific area of responsibility.
People management:
• Manage own learning and development with guidance from manager.
• Have responsibility for managing internal technical support staff or external consultants on specific tasks.
Problem solving:
• Within a defined scope, collects data, analyses and resolves specific problems.
• Actively participate in making suggestions to resolve project problems.
Communication:
• Actively source and shares information.
• Provide routine explanation and advice in a timely and effective manner.
Planning:
• Organise own workload in consideration of directed priorities and system requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and training:
• Degree in relevant subject i.e. Civil Engineering
Background and experience:
• Evidence of team working and application to problem solving.
• Experience/understanding of delivering project tasks to budget and programme.
Knowledge Base:
• Basic understanding of structural, hydraulic, hydrological, and geotechnical design.
• Awareness of responsibilities under the CDM regulations.
Skills:
• Communicate effectively with team members, sub-consultants, clients, other external organisations.
• Ability to write clearly and concisely producing well written reports.
• Intermediate skills such as use of systems, software packages and/or databases. Skilled in the use of MS Word and Excel. Familiar with MS Project and CAD.
Personal Attributes:
• Drive, enthusiasm and integrity.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Education and training:
• MSc or MEng in related subject. Some work experience in industry.
Academic and professional qualifications:
• Graduate member of ICE or CIWEM or equivalent and evidence of progress on training schemes.
Background and experience:
• Experience of water/wastewater or flood risk management projects.
• Some experience of working directly with, and communicating with clients.
Knowledge Base:
• Basic understanding of either water or wastewater engineering management including theory of costs, economics, fluvial or coastal processes, reporting and design.
Skills:
• Clean driving licence.
Personal Attributes:
• Able to manage inputs to several projects at a time.
